This is a CAD dwg drawing for Steel Portal Frames Vertical CHS X Bracing Details. Example steel hangar portal frames elevation view illustrating vertical X-Bracing between portal frame columns with CHS members. Portal frames are at 6.0m center-to-center with a 6.0m height.

Bracing members are connected onto a single steel plate with one bolt. Connection plate is pre-welded onto the column’s web thus creating a simple connection with no moment resistance.

The four bracing members are connected at the center of the portal frames span and height with on hexagonal steel plate with a single bolt each, again creating a simple connection with only axial forces.

The bracing system is designed to carry out-of-plane portal frame forces and brace consecutive frames together against horizontal forces. Usually, vertical bracing is required at the first and last frame’s bays and depending on the overall length of the structure additional bracing may be required. In this example, bracing is illustrated at the first and last bay as well as the two (2) middle bays for symmetry.
