This is a CAD dwg drawing of a Steel Beam Angles Moment Connection to SHS Column Detail. Square hollow section ( SHS ) columns are a little more tedious in terms of connection types, since bolts cannot be tightened from the inside.

In order to achieve a moment connection between an IPE steel beam and such SHS column, one way is to weld two angle web cleats with fillet weld onto the column all around and then use bolts on-site to connect to the IPE steel beam’s web, plus two top and bottom angles again welded onto the SHS column and bolted to the IPE beam top and bottom flanges. This is considered to be a moment resisting connection.

Same type of connection detail can also be used, but instead of bolting the web top and bottom angles to the beam, the four angle connection can also be fillet welded on-site to the beam itself.
