This CAD dwg detailed drawing illustrates a change in column section profile from floor to floor. Lower floor column is a reinforced concrete square column, which is altered on the top floor to a reinforced concrete circular section column. This is a common practice in structural engineering, when architectural design explicitly show such column profile changes. It is a typical connection detail that can be used throughout many projects and save valuable drafting time.

In such cases, the top floor column needs to be inscribed in the lower floor column section outline, in order to achieve continuity for load transferring from top to bottom. In this case the top circular section concrete column has a diameter of 60cm, which is inscribed in the 60x60cm square section column of the lower floor.

Upper column reinforcement bars, are bend in a bottle-neck type joint in order to match the reinforcement bars of the other column and transfer loads continuosly to the column below.

Both square and circular reinforced concrete column section profile details, as well as the joint between then two, is included with this time saving CAD dwg drawing.

Designer can simply change sizing of both column with simple CAD commands, if needed, and include it with his/her project design. It can also be used as a standard detail for all projects as is.
