This is a CAD dwg drawing of an SHS Beam Column Simple Fin Connection Detail. Square hollow section ( SHS ) columns are a little more tedious in terms of connection types, since bolts cannot be tightened from the inside.

In order to achieve a simple connection between an SHS steel beam and an SHS column, one way is to weld a fin connection plate with a fillet weld onto the column and then use bolts on-site to connect to the SHS steel beam which in turn has an endplate and fin plate welded onto the end of the beam. This is considered to be a simple connection with no moment resistance. Only axial and vertical loads are being carried onto the steel column.
