In timber framed structures when spans are bigger than normal, a steel beam might be used to support loads at big openings. The timber secondary beams will then need to be detailed to be supported on top of that steel primary beam.

In this detail a secondary timber floor span beam is supported on top of a parallel flange steel beam with the use a single angle cleat and through bolts. The angle connection is also bolted onto the steel beam top flange.
